Inspiration for the toys that we make comes from a variety of places, most of them real world situations. Our fire truck, for instance, came directly from a cell phone picture of a caution sign outside a local volunteer fire department! There are stories behind most of the toy’s designs, feel free to ask about them when you see us at a market.

We are proud to have Hobby Hardwood Alabama as our exclusive wood supplier. Check the video of our trip to the saw mill, then explore their website and let Robert teach you more about the different species they source and how they prepare them.

We do not turn our own accessories. The round pieces are sourced from a variety of companies around the country.

Knox Handmade Toys starts with our own patterns drawn on a variety of hardwood. The next step is cutting each piece out, drilling any holes, and sanding them smooth.

The completed pieces are coated with food grade mineral oil and oven cured. Once dry, the pieces are assembled with non-toxic wood glue, accessories are added, and they are ready to be played with!
